Definition
Media representations are the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective. Rather than examining media representations as simply reflecting or mirroring “reality,” we will be examining how media representations serve to “re-present” or to actually create a new reality.

My Definition
Media representation is a system created by media institutions to act as propaganda to indoctrinating their demographic by portraying a particular group of people in a certain type of perspective; just like portraying teenage girls as avid shopaholics or portraying teenage boys as avid video game players.
You are right that the issue of representation is linked to stereotyping and that all media texts offer a particular way of loking at the world which is not value free. I think it is too strong though to suggest that all representations are propaganda attempting to indoctrinate us.
