Reflection

My Reflection

I have to admit although I am very passionate about Media and different Media branches, unlike other Media students I found this bridging task very difficult to complete, now this wasn't because the task were to "hard" or maybe i was to "stupid" to comprehend the work, but it was because I was to lazy but now that I have completed the bridging task I am now prepared for the hard work coming my way and I plan to make no compromises.

Instagram Introducing ADS

Brief Summary

In a blog post entitled "Instagram as a growing  business" Instagram quietly hinted that they were going to be introducing adds to the mobile service, now users will be opted to view pictures and videos from companies they don't even follow. This is all part of instagrams plans on still being a variable business after being soled to Facebook in 2012. Luckily Instagram had stated that we will be able to opt out of viewing certain ads and give feedback if we find them inappropriate.
here is a section of the blog post explaining the decision.
"Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow ... We’ll also make sure you have control. If you see an ad you don’t like, you’ll be able to hide it and provide feedback about what didn't feel right,"
I found this article interesting because as a teenager in 2013 Instagram alongside other social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter had become a big part of my social  life, and alongside various other teenagers i would hate to have ads and other sort of spam appear in my instargram news feeds.

Media Representation

Definition

Media representations are the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective. Rather than examining media representations as simply reflecting or mirroring “reality,” we will be examining how media representations serve to “re-present” or to actually create a new reality.
(Definition can be found here)

My Definition

Media representation is a system created by media institutions to act as propaganda to indoctrinating their demographic by portraying a particular group of people in a certain type of perspective; just like portraying teenage girls as avid shopaholics or portraying teenage boys as avid video game players.

Three resources I found most interesting/helpful and why

To aid me whilst creating my Media Studies Bridging Blog I was given a handful of resources and examples to use at my disposal as verbal  and visual scaffolding, these are the main three resources I found helpful.

Ideally The main Beaverwood media blog was the most resourceful source i was given; this was
because this acted as a hub of knowledge in which i could gather collect information and detailed instructions ranging from videos on starting a blog too examples of completed and successful blogs.

*2) The "Annotating Magazines Cover" page
The Annotating Magazines Cover page was great, I have to admit; there were quite a few vocab words on that page that were completely new to me one example being "Masthead".
With all the new analyzing techniques i gathered from this source i can bravely say I qualified to analyse any example of a magazine cover, which is why i found this source extremely helpful.

I found this source surprisingly useful, this is simply because I was able to use this successful example as a stimuli to base my own blog on, this example blog acted as a visual example and representation of what i should aim to make finishing blog look like, and for this reason I found the source useful.

I found another really useful source online, this source was a webpage explaining how to embed an image into your title, I found this very useful because it covered an area that wasn't covered in the Media blog that was provided.
