MEDIA GUARDIAN
Instagram Introducing ADS
Brief Summary
In a blog post entitled "Instagram as a growing business" Instagram quietly hinted that they were going to be introducing adds to the mobile service, now users will be opted to view pictures and videos from companies they don't even follow. This is all part of instagrams plans on still being a variable business after being soled to Facebook in 2012. Luckily Instagram had stated that we will be able to opt out of viewing certain ads and give feedback if we find them inappropriate.
here is a section of the blog post explaining the decision.
"Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow ... We’ll also make sure you have control. If you see an ad you don’t like, you’ll be able to hide it and provide feedback about what didn't feel right,"
I found this article interesting because as a teenager in 2013 Instagram alongside other social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter had become a big part of my social life, and alongside various other teenagers i would hate to have ads and other sort of spam appear in my instargram news feeds.
